Megan Carmichael, BS

Megan Carmichael serves as the Tobacco Program Manager at Gulfcoast North AHEC, bringing over 26 years of experience in public health to her role. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Health Education and Nutrition from Coastal Carolina University and has spent much of her career with the Florida Department of Health (DOH), working at both the state and county levels in Pinellas and Pasco Counties.

Throughout her tenure with DOH, Megan has successfully managed multiple federal and state grants focused on policy, systems, and environmental changes that promote access to safe physical activity and healthy, affordable nutrition. Her expertise extends to areas such as employee wellness, substance use prevention, tobacco prevention, maternal and child health, and community health initiatives. She has also contributed to the development and revision of agency policies and procedures.

Megan played a pivotal role in leading county-level accreditation efforts, as well as implementing and managing quality improvement plans, strategic plans, and workforce development plans. She was instrumental in facilitating the Pasco County Community Health Assessment (CHA) and Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).

A passionate advocate for public health, Megan has cultivated strong partnerships with national, state, and local agencies, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, and non-traditional community partners. Her work has centered on implementing evidence-based strategies to enhance the health and well-being of Florida residents. She is deeply committed to fostering individual lifestyle changes and advancing policies that support healthier communities.

A resident of Pasco County for 33 years, Megan lives in West Pasco with her husband of 25 years, Brad. They have two children: Cameron, 23, and Lauren, 19, who attends the University of South Carolina Beaufort and plays collegiate soccer for the Sand Sharks. The family also includes their beloved dog, Oliver. In her free time, Megan enjoys boating, spending time with loved ones, and soaking up the Florida sunshine.
