Florida AHEC Scholars
The Florida AHEC Scholars program is a free and unique interdisciplinary program that is part of a national initiative preparing students to become leaders in primary care and beyond.

Program Components
The Florida AHEC Scholars Program will provide students with interprofessional learning opportunities focused on building the skills and competencies needed to transform primary care and patient care. The program will consist of 40 hours of experiential learning assignments and 40 hours of online modules over the course of 2 years or 4 academic semesters
FOCUS AREAS
Explore current and emerging healthcare topics via online modules. Healthcare topics include behavioral health, social determinants of health, practice transformation, cultural competency, interprofessional education, and other emerging issues.
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
Serve medically under-served and at-risk populations through community-based experiential learning assignments.
HEALTH PROFESSIONAL STUDENTS
Join degree-seeking health professional students (clinical and non-clinical) who want to work with under-served populations.
INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAMS
Gain experience working in interdisciplinary teams and developing professionally through mentoring, networking, and certificate programs.
RECOGNITION
Receive $500 stipend per year and recognition upon program completion.
Student Eligibility
APPLICANTS MUST:
- Be enrolled in a health professions degree
- Be two years from program or degree completion
- Commit to two years in the program and a one-time program follow-up
APPLICABLE MAJORS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO MEDICINE, PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT, PUBLIC HEALTH, DENTISTRY, OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY, PHYSICAL THERAPY, PSYCHOLOGY, NURSING, DENTAL HYGIENE, PHARMACY, SOCIAL WORK, EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS.
